Welcome to 126 Squadron and we hope that your impression of the unit will help you make up your mind to become part of the team.

Each year over 60,000 cadets, volunteer staff and civilian committee members’ help engage in pursuits and rewarding opportunities such as championing good causes in the local communities, sporting event, BTEC’s and much more.

Air Cadets aged 12 to 20 are given the chance by our team of staff and adult volunteers to learn how to fly, lead expeditions, tour foreign countries, become target rifle marksman, join a band, experience the discipline of rifle drill and learn about aviation and aerospace – only a small list of the many activities and opportunities for a social life with many new friends and a CV worthy of the very best of our society.

We insist that our cadets are smart, polite, friendly and hard-working, each one of us striving to make the Squadron the number one unit in the country.

You have decided to have a look at the best youth organisation in the UK offering a wide range of activities from Flying and Gliding and target shooting to sports and academic qualifications.

The Squadron works hard to be world class in all its activities with National recognition in Shooting, Modelling and Aircraft Recognition. The cadets on the unit are well travelled with cadets attending activities in Cyprus, Holland, France, Belgium and Germany.

Our aim is to provide our cadets with qualifications to help them achieve in both civilian and service life. At Derby we are actively engaged with the BTEC scheme and offer qualifications in Public Services, Aeronautical Pursuits and Music which can build up an impressive CV.

Running parallel with this is the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, First Aid courses and Radio Communication qualifications.

There is so much available to the young person wishing to join Derby squadron, it is impossible for me to mention it all here. Joining this unit will be a life changing experience and one in which memories and friends will be with you for life.

What I will say is that you only get out what you put in, have a go at all that is offered to you, work hard for your squadron and the achievements and opportunities will follow.

I am proud to say that 126 Squadron is at the forefront of Air Cadet activities. We strive to offer Derby’s youth with opportunities that many teenagers and young adults will never have the chance to experience. 126 Squadron has produced some of the most successful Air Cadets in the country and this is down to the dedication and commitment of my staff team. The cadets also play a vital role in the underlining team ethic that is felt on the squadron whenever the gates are open.

I look forward to welcoming you to 126 Squadron soon.
